Top New Year's Resolutions:
If you're just like any other person out there you find the new year as the opportunity to make resolutions with the hope of following through. But do you match up with all the others? Let's take a look at the most popular New Year's resolutions! You'll see what percentage of people choose these resolutions and if I am joining them!
Learn a new Skill or Hobby (26%)
I know just about anyone who says they want to learn a new language, a new computer code, a new work-related skill or something else. The hardest part about this is sticking to it especially if it's something out there like learning German and all you speak is English. What about American Sign Language (ASL)? You don't even speak there technically, you have to put your fingers in just the right positions to make sure someone understands you! But to be able to say you learned a new skill or hobby is a fantastic accomplishment. Try learning to sew -- a skill that comes in handy not just to keep your clothes longer but you can create awesome things for others. Learn another language so that you can help others communicate!
One of my resolutions is to finish learning ASL, and also possibly learn French this year!
Lose Weight 54% (Up to 71%)
Okay, so let's be honest we all gain weight during the Holiday Season. I've always been at a plateau size of 225lbs it seems no matter what I do I don't go below that weight unless I'm sick or I can't afford to buy healthy food. But I'm not lazy by any means! When my daughter is in school I will walk 2 miles a day and I am a vegetable/fruit eater as much as I can. I even (when no one is looking) try to do ballet as much as my knees, hips, and ankles allow. By the time the new year hits we've all noticed our jeans are a bit more snug, our shirts don't quite seem as long as before and we can't blame the dryer every time. But, did you know that the majority of gym sign ups occur in January, and by March or April they've tapered off and many people have just stopped going? So take a chance and find a routine that works for you!
Quit Smoking 21%
I tried to start smoking a long time ago, and it didn't take. But my husband was a smoker when we met and from 2008 to 2009 our apartment just reeked. I really never noticed after being in there with him all the time. But once he quit in May of 2009 we realized just how bad it was. Unfortunately, vaping was not an option for him and now that he vapes, he's so much healthier. He's down to I believe 1.5mg nicotine compared to 16mg in a cigarette. His vape clouds smell wonderful and are nothing more than water vapor when they exit him. There is absolutely NO proof that vaping is dangerous no matter what people say, and I say if you want to stop smoking as a new year's resolution, go vape! Ease yourself down on the nicotine until you're at 0 mg, and then if you still need to keep a vice just vape the non-nicotine flavors! The worst that'll happen is you make your windows foggy in the winter!
Spend more time with family and friends 13%
When my husband and I first got married, we prided ourselves in knowing we were happy alone. We had had some very horrible experiences with "friends" and even "family" and we figured we trusted each other that's all that mattered. But over the years we've grown up and so have our friends we've met and kept up with. Unfortunately, after getting into a car accident in March of 2016 I have had a fear of driving long distances unless it's always going to be in the day time. The furthest I've ever gone at night was my parent's place about 35 minutes away. And that's not a good thing so this year, we've decided we need to also head the further distance to our friends! Going out for a few drinks and we have the money? Well we should go out to them even if it's 45 minutes away! Having a night of fire pit and chatting? We should join them! Are you planning to spend more time with family and friends this year too? You should! You never know how time will change and how things will happen. We were so lucky that our accident was nothing more than a bit of a damaged vehicle and sadly I have some permanent strange pain in my collar bone. But what if it had been worse? Take the time and be with them Just as we plan to do!
Be a better parent 100%
Okay so truth is I don't know if anyone else chose this as a resolution but it will always be mine. Every year just like any other parent I have good and bad moments. I'll have stressed out moments where I won't listen to something my daughter was trying to tell me and then I reflect back and the guilt is just huge. Or I'll have moments where I wish I'd hugged her more in a day knowing soon she won't want to hug me like that or snuggle up like that. So what do I want to do? I want to be a better parent than I was in 2018 and I feel every parent out there should be the same way. Just take a few more moments with your kids to listen. Spend more time with them. Your DVR'ed show can wait you aren't watching it live! You want to fold laundry, but your kid wants you to come sit with them while they read! Which are you going to do? Yep you got it! Let's be better parents in 2019!
